ITINERARY OVERVIEW:

Cairns is the gateway to Queensland’s tropical north and where you will find cafés, busy markets and beaches close by.  Start your adventure with an evening sunset dinner cruise.  Next you’re off travelling on the Daintree River through the Daintree Forest to Cape Tribulation.  Visit Mossman Gorge on the way and soak in the beauty of the rainforest.  Explore the Great Barrier Reef from an activity platform where you can view the reef from the underwater observatory or in a semi-submersible, and you can snorkel, dive or Oceanwalk.  Travel from Cairns to Kuranda on the famous Kuranda Scenic Railway passing spectacular waterfalls and into the stunning Barron Gorge.  Visit Rainforestation a nature park amidst the Kuranda rainforest, board and amphibious vehicle for a rainforest tour and spend time in the Koala and Wildlife Park.  Finish your day riding the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway a 7.5 km scenic cableway running above the Barron Gorge National Park.

DAY BY DAY:

Day 1:   After arriving in Cairns you will be transferred to your accommodation.  This evening you get to board a sailing catamaran to enjoy an evening of calm water cruising on Trinity Inlet, taking in the sights and sounds of this tropical port city and its surrounding mangroves, as they transition from day to night. Your journey takes you deep into the heart of Trinity Inlet and across the waterfront precinct of Cairns, from the Cruise Liner Terminal to the Esplanade. The water is calm, the weather mild and the night is yours to enjoy, with entertainment and a delicious Buffet dinner featuring some of the region’s best produce, including seafood.

 

Day 2:   Today you are off to Cape Tribulation.   Travel in a purpose-built vehicle to Cape Tribulation, through some of the oldest rainforest in the world. Visit the Mossman Gorge Centre for morning tea before boarding your shuttle for the transfer into Mossman Gorge. Your guide will take you for a guided walk sharing their knowledge of this enchanting rainforest environment. Learn about the fascinating secrets of one of the world's oldest rainforests. Cruise on the Daintree River the habitat of birds, tree snakes, unique plants and of course the estuarine crocodile. Enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch in the rainforest of Noah Valley. Following lunch, you’ll drive to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Walk on this world-renowned rainforest beach, admire the coastline and fringing coral reef from the Kulki Lookout. After winding through the rainforest of the Alexandra Range, enjoy this spectacular lookout over the Daintree River Estuary, Snapper Island and beyond to the Coral Sea.

 

Day 3:  You’re off to experience the Great Barrier Reef today.  Travel by catamaran to a spacious reef activity platform moored in protective lagoons at the renowned Agincourt Reef, on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef. There are facilities to enable both swimmers and non-swimmers to experience this stunning reef world. Explore the reef from the comfort of a semi-submersible, the underwater observatory or by snorkeling. A range of optional activities are available including up to two dives for certified divers, and novices can experience the magic of scuba with a qualified dive instructor or an Oceanwalker helmet dive. Also available are guided snorkeling tours with a marine biologist and scenic helicopter flights over the reef (all optional activities at own expense). Enjoy lunch on board.

 

Day 4:  The tropical north is famous for its rainforest and you get to explore that today.  You will be transferred to Freshwater Station for your historical rail journey to Kuranda, enjoying breathtaking views across the cane fields of Cairns, to the tropical rainforest of Kuranda.  Explore the village, the markets are full of colorful and interesting arts and crafts.  Then visit Rainforestation, set in 40 hectares of lush gardens and tropical rainforest, where a number of unique attractions await you. Board the unusual amphibious Army Duck for a different look at the rainforest. Also included in your tour is the Koala & Wildlife Park. Back at Kuranda board the Skyrail Cableway for a 7.5km journey over and through World Heritage protected Rainforest. Explore rainforest boardwalks and lookouts and the Rainforest Interpretation Centre.

 

Day 5:   Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Visa requirements:

To travel to Australia you will need a US passport valid for at least 6 months and we can process an ETA Visa for free for US Citizens.  We will need a copy of your Photo Page of your Passport.  Nationalities of any other countries please enquire with your agent to see if you are eligible for a free ETA Visa or if you need to apply for a Visitor Visa.

To travel to New Zealand you will need a US passport valid for at least 6 months and an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority. More information on the NZeTA application requirements and process can be found on our FAQ page here.

All of the sample itineraries on this website do not include airfares as the airfare price changes daily and to ensure you get the best possible price we will work with the best airfares at the time.  If you happen to buy your airfare first and then need a package to fit it, we can certainly help with that as well, just let us know.

 

As an idea for a 2-week vacation to Australia or New Zealand we recommend a budget of around $8,000-10,000 (including economy airfare), this would be for a 4 star and above itinerary, a little cheaper if we did more moderate accommodations.
