This itinerary is perfect for those who want to see Sydney, one of the most beautiful cites in the world, taste great wine and see Australian animals in their own habitat.  This trip allows you to enjoy different environments from cities, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, to wineries and vineyards.  You’ll explore Sydney, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and several of Australia’s best wine regions.  The combination of tours and time to do you own thing enables you to see and experience the best on offer during the tours and then spend your own time revisiting areas of interest of exploring on your own at your own pace.   With plenty of stunning scenery, native wildlife, fantastic food and wines you can return home after 13 days relaxed and energized from your Australian visit.

DAY BY DAY:

Day 1:  Arrive into Sydney. You’ll be transported to your city accommodation.  The rest of the day is at your leisure. (4 nights Sydney)

 

Day 2:   Enjoy a half day panoramic tour to see the historic Rocks area and hear early convict history. Enjoy magnificent views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. See the shopping heart of the city, Queen Victoria Building and Sydney Tower. Visit Sydney’s trendy Oxford Street district and travel through Paddington with its terrace houses before arriving at the Pacific Ocean. See the superb coast cliff walk around Tamarama and Bronte. Travel on to famous Bondi Beach and visit the beachfront promenade with time to enjoy a coffee or cool drink (at own cost). See Aussie lifesavers and Sydney’s best panoramic view at Dover Heights. Return to Sydney via Double Bay, Kings Cross and Mrs Macquarie’s Point for a final magical viewpoint over the harbour before returning to the city centre.  See diverse suburbs and fantastic beaches. This afternoon you get to enjoy a guided tour of the world heritage listed building, the Sydney Opera House. After your tour, indulge like a local Sydneysider with a choice of Australian inspired mains at Opera Bar with some of the best harbour views in Sydney, offering alfresco and indoor seating.

 

Day 3:  You have another day at leisure to enjoy Sydney today.  We can suggest you take a stroll along the waterfront and through the Botanic Gardens, or you may like to explore further afield, taking a trip out to the Blue Mountains to go bush walking or admire the striking Three Sisters sandstone rock formation. Located about an hour and a half from the city, you can take the train there and back or hire a car for the day.  Indulge in some shopping or relax and enjoy time at a luxury spa.  The choice is yours. 

 

Day 4:  Today you’re off on a wine tour in the Hunter Valley. Your guide will collect you from your Sydney hotel. Departing from the city, we travel to the Hunter Valley, which is nestled in the lee of the Great Dividing Range. 180 years young, this is Australia’s oldest and best known wine region and is soaked in history. It’s a dynamic and fascinating area that brims with over 150 top class wineries, 65 indulgent restaurants and gourmet produce and breweries. Sample exquisite wines at boutique wineries, enjoy learning about the wine making process, a winery lunch, cheese tasting, and a chocolate experience. 

 

Day 5:  Today you will fly to Adelaide and transfer to your accommodation. The rest of the day is yours to spend exploring. We recommend you explore the Central Market and make your way to the beach suburb of Glenelg for a late afternoon seafront walk. (2 nights Adelaide)

 

Day 6:   You get to explore the McLaren Vale wine region today. Enjoy the beautiful coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsular with its glistening vistas of Gulf St Vincent and pristine beaches on our way to the McLaren Vale wine region McLaren Vale is best known for Shiraz. We pass through rolling vistas of vineyards to visit up to four picturesque wineries in the Vale'. Each one is steeped in history with friendly knowledgeable staff, happy to guide you through each wine tasting experience. A delicious Restaurant lunch with a glass of wine is included. Then back to Adelaide for the evening.

 

Day 7:  Transfer to Adelaide Airport for you flight to Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival, an Exceptional Kangaroo Island vehicle will pick you up from the airport to commence a multi-day Kangaroo Island Wanderer tour. Stroll through a eucalyptus forest spotting koala snoozing overhead. Travel through some of the Island's best farming country to the North Coast. Visit the habitat of the world's rarest cockatoo and seek out wallabies and kangaroos in the wild. After a delicious seafood barbecue lunch, visit Seal Bay where you can walk amongst the Australian Sea Lions with your guide. Explore more of the island before being set down at your accommodation. Dinner is included this evening. (2 nights at Kangaroo Island)

 

Day 8:   After breakfast your guide will pick you up to travel to Flinders Chase National Park, which provides a breeding habitat for the rare Cape Barren Goose and is also home to a wide variety of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, possums, goannas, echidnas, koalas, platypus and a myriad of bird species. Visit a fur seal colony before enjoying an elegant picnic lunch in the bush. In the afternoon sample more of Kangaroo Island before returning to your accommodation. Dinner is included.

           

Day 9:  After breakfast transfer to Kingscote Airport. Tour concludes at approximately 11.05am at Adelaide Airport. Once back in Adelaide, collect your car for a beautiful drive to the Clare Valley where you can enjoy exploring some more delicious wine.  (1 night in Clare Valley).

 

Day 10 It's a short drive to the famous Barossa Valley today.  You can enjoy exploring some more world-famous wineries and relax among the picturesque vineyards. (2 nights Barossa Valley)

 

Day 11:  Today, spend the day around the Barossa Valley. You can visit some of the local wineries at your own pace, relax and enjoy the scenery.

 

Day 12: Drive back to Adelaide for your last evening in Australia. (1 night Adelaide)

 

Day 13:  Transfer to Adelaide Airport for flights back home.

Visa requirements:

To travel to Australia you will need a US passport valid for at least 6 months and we can process an ETA Visa for free for US Citizens.  We will need a copy of your Photo Page of your Passport.  Nationalities of any other countries please enquire with your agent to see if you are eligible for a free ETA Visa or if you need to apply for a Visitor Visa.

To travel to New Zealand you will need a US passport valid for at least 6 months and an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority. More information on the NZeTA application requirements and process can be found on our FAQ page here.

Travel Insurance:

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment. We will provide a travel insurance quote at the time of booking, and you are free to use our recommended insurance with Travelguard, find your own, or book without insurance.

A product that we can offer is a Cancel For Any Reason policy that will provide you with 80% back in refunds.  If the cancellation is for medical reasons there is a 100% refund..

All of the sample itineraries on this website do not include airfares as the airfare price changes daily and to ensure you get the best possible price we will work with the best airfares at the time.  If you happen to buy your airfare first and then need a package to fit it, we can certainly help with that as well, just let us know.

 

As an idea for a 2-week vacation to Australia or New Zealand we recommend a budget of around $8,000-10,000 (including economy airfare), this would be for a 4 star and above itinerary, a little cheaper if we did more moderate accommodations.
