This tour is for anyone who loves wildlife.  Head straight to South Australia and start your adventure in Adelaide before flying off to Port Lincoln, a seafood paradise, for your first wildlife adventure either swimming with sea lions or with great white sharks in a cage dive (or underwater sub if you prefer).  Head back to Adelaide for time to explore the city and close by wine regions.  Now you’re off to Kangaroo Island one of the best places in Australia to see native wildlife up close.  You’ll tour the island to see many iconic Australian animals in their natural habitat including colonies of sea lions at Seal Bay and 10 000 fur seals at Flinders Chase National Park.  Have your camera ready for the Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. You can return home knowing you have experienced the best Australian wildlife opportunities with this itinerary.

DAY BY DAY:

Day 1:   Arrive in Adelaide, South Australia. Transfer to your hotel and spend the afternoon exploring Adelaide Central Markets, colonial streets and hidden shops, bars and restaurants. (1 night in Adelaide)

Day 2:   Transfer short flight to Port Lincoln. Day at leisure.  FYI Port Lincoln is known as the seafood capital of Australia, so enjoy fresh oysters, lobsters and more.  (2 nights in Port Lincoln)

Day 3:  You have a great wildlife opportunity to pick from.  Either swimming with sea lions or with great white sharks.  If you pick with great white sharks, you’ll be submerged in a cage underwater and completely safe. The sharks can also be viewed from the underwater Aqua Sub if you want to stay dry.  Afternoon at leisure in Port Lincoln.

Day 4:   Transfer for flight back to Adelaide and pick up your rental car.  You can spend the afternoon at leisure exploring or head to Cleland Wildlife Park, 20 minutes from Adelaide city center.  You can get up close and personal with Australia’s most iconic native animals such as koalas (even hold one), wombats, bettongs dingoes, Tasmanian devils.  You can hand feed kangaroos, emus, wallabies, potoroos and waterfowl. Meet Fred the friendly wombat.  Cleland is one of the only places in Australia you can have a close and personal experience with a wombat. (2 nights Adelaide)

Day 5: Head off to a wine region to enjoy a long lunch in a vineyard and wine tastings.  Areas to go include Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale for starters. If you would prefer to go on an escorted small group wine tour, we can arrange that for you.

Day 6: Drive to the airport for a short and very scenic flight to Kangaroo Island.  You will be met at the airport and board your full day 4WD wildlife discovery tour of Kangaroo Island.  Tour through island habitats to find wildlife in its natural habitat.  Visit Seal Bay for a beach walk to see a sea lion colony basking in the sun. Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch with wine before more wildlife exploration.

Day 7: Today you’re off touring to explore Flinders Chase National Park, one of the oldest most important national parks in South Australia. Your guide will take you through the park in search of wildlife including a 10 000 fur seal colony at Cape Couedic. Fantastic rock formations are on the tour including Remarkable Rocks and Admiral Arch. Enjoy a picnic lunch in a bush setting, you might spot a koala in the treetops. You will also visit the Kelly Hill Conservation Park to see kangaroos and other native wildlife grazing on the open plains.

All of the sample itineraries on this website do not include airfares as the airfare price changes daily and to ensure you get the best possible price we will work with the best airfares at the time.  If you happen to buy your airfare first and then need a package to fit it, we can certainly help with that as well, just let us know.

As an idea for a 2-week vacation to Australia or New Zealand we recommend a budget of around $8,000-10,000 (including economy airfare), this would be for a 4 star and above itinerary, a little cheaper if we did more moderate accommodations.
