A realistic, up-front view of Queensland's captivating outback - enjoyed in the comfort of air-conditioned, authentically-themed surrounds. On its journey west, the 'Spirit of the Outback' ventures through the heritage towns of Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine before arriving in Longreach, home to the famous Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, Qantas Founders Museum and the Outback Heritage Centre.
Extended touring packages are available, offering coach connections to Winton and visits to a host of surrounding attractions including the Historic Wellshot Hotel, Lark Quarry Dinosaur Footprints, Blackall's Historical Woolscour and Jacky Howe, the Australian Worker's Heritage Centre and the Waltzing Matilda Cultural Centre.
'The Spirit of the Outback' has been a favourite with Australian and international travellers alike for 10 years, due to the social atmosphere onboard and the spectacular views afforded throughout the 24 hour journey.
Passengers are accommodated either in sleeping berths (for one, two or three people) or in seats. The sleeping berths feature a range of amenities to ensure a comfortable journey, including bedding, wash basins, wardrobes and access to shower facilities.
Dining onboard 'The Spirit of the Outback' is an experience in itself with the themed resturant car serving hearty Aussie meals. While the club and lounge cars are ideal for a quiet drink or chat with fellow passengers.
'The Spirit of the Outback' consists of 15 carriages accommodating up to 204 passengers.
Journey Overview
The Spirit of the Outback follows Queensland's coastline from Brisbane to Rockhampton, before heading west through Blackwater, Emerald and Barcaldine, until it reaches Longreach. With a connecting coach service to Winton. Twice weekly departures from Brisbane on Tuesdays and Saturdays; and from Longreach on Mondays and Thursdays.
