Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and second only within New Zealand to Lake Taupo.

Te Anau and Manapouri literally provide the gateways to the Fiords, with access to both Milford and Doubtful Sound being via these departure points. An excellent base to explore the Fiordland area, there is a wide range of accommodation available within Te Anau and environs to suit all budgets.

Te Anau is the closest service base to Milford, and offers over 3000 beds to weary travellers with a scenic two hours drive Te Anau to Milford.
